The Carib Indians inhabited Saint Kitts and Nevis

1493: Christopher Columbus lands in Saint Kitts and Nevis

1623/1624: English and French settlers arrived

1628: England and France control Saint Kitts and England settles in Nevis and makes it prosperous

1666: There is a war between France and England

1713: Saint Kitts is ceded to England according to the Treaty of Utrecht

1782: France took Saint Kitts and Nevis

1783: Britain gets Saint Kitts and Nevis from the Treaty of Paris

1871: Saint Kitts and Nevis became part of the colony of Leeward Islands

1958: Saint Kitts and Nevis became part of the West Indies Federation

1967: Saint Kitts and Nevis become a self governing state

September 19, 1983: Saint Kitts and Nevis gain their full independence as The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis

1998: Nevis resident vote to secede from Saint Kitts, but the vote did meet the two thirds vote required to secede.

BRIMSTONE HILL FORTRESS 

 BRIMSTONE HILL FORTRESS:

Brimstone Hill Fortress is a fortress that was built by African slaves and the British.  It is located on the island of Saint Kitts.  The fortress then became a national park.  Brimstone Hill Fortress was originally used for government purposes and fending off anyone who might try to take over.

ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH

ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH:

St. George's Anglican Church is a very large church that is built on a battle site.  It was originally built in 1670, but since then it has been destroyed five times.  The last restoration took place in 1869.  The French originally built this church, Notre Dame, but once the British burned it down and rebuilt it was named St. George's Anglican Church.

The Museum of Nevis History is located at the site of Alexander Hamilton's birthplace.  However the original building was destroyed in an earthquake.  The museum has artifacts from up to 4,000 years ago.  There are many ceramic artifacts as well as important artifacts to Nevis' cultural and political history.

 THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF NEVIS

THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF NEVIS

The Botanical Gardens of Nevis were created by Joseph and Martha Murphy.  It is filled with fountains and sculptures in addition to many plants.  There is an orchid section and even a tropical rain forest section.  These gardens are also a popular place to get married.
